Welcome to the 2018-2019 School Year

Green Meadow Students have spent their first few art classes creating "Get to Know You" sculptures using various forms of 3D lines such as zig zag, arch, swirl, etc.  Third Grade students have been creating "Be the Nice Kid" images to hang in the front of the school and accompany the new quote located by the front doors.

Curriculum:
This year we will explore the Elements and Principals of Designs as the focus of our curriculum.  Lessons will focus on Line, color, shape, contrast, movement, rhythm, value, balance, texture, Space, Form, proportion, unity and variety.

Donations:
The art room could use the following donations:
  • Paper towels (for cleaning up spills)
  • Clorox wipes
  • Tissues
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Sponges
The Art show will be held during Spring Open House April 10, 2019.  I hope to open doors by 6pm and the show will end promptly at 8pm in order to have time to break down the show.  The format will be the same as last year, framed art will be displayed and frames will be sold for $25 each.  The art room receives $6.00 for each frame.  The proceeds from the show will but used for either a new ceramics Kiln or additional art supplies.

Artsonia:
The art room uses Artsonia online art museum to keep a digital portfolio of your student's work.  If you do not yet have an Artsonia account for your child please contact me at sarcelay@maynard.k12.ma.us so that I can get your account set up.  It's a fun way to store your student's work from Kindergarten all the way to High school.

Volunteers:
I could use a few volunteers to help with photographing work on Artsonia, organizing donations, hanging art work or changing over bulletin boards.  If you're interested in helping in the art room please email me.

Looking forward to a wonderful year.

Art Show & Britto

The first K-3rd Art Show was held in April.  There were 435 framed artworks displayed and 67% of those frames were sold!  I'm completely overwhelmed with the response and extremely grateful for the support.  The beaming faces of students holding their framed artwork will stay with me for a very long time! I hope that you enjoyed the new format.  Next year I hope to have some additional work displayed in the halls.  The funds raised during the show have already been put to good use! Thus far I have purchased special jewels for Grade 3 Brazilian masks, Quik Stix tempura paint sticks (kids are LOVING these) and King Sized Sharpies for Romero Britto Hearts plus a few other "emergency" items.  I will also be purchasing silk screens (super expensive!), printing inks,  Gelli plates and some fun items such as Gel pens, and metallic Sharpies.  These are items I could not normal purchase and will students for years to come! I'm very excited to plan silk screening lessons for next year.  Again, thank you for your support.  I'm confident that next year's show will be even better!

We are currently learning about the country of Brazil.  Kindgarten, 1st Grade and 2nd Grade learned about Brazilian artist Romero Britto and made some colorful & happy artwork!

I can not wait to hang these colorful hearts in the school!  Please keep an eye out for your child's art portfolio which will come home 1 week before school ends.  It will have all the artwork for the year.  Please feel free to email me with any questions.  Happy Spring!

2018 Green Meadow Art Show!! April 11th

The Green Meadow 2018 Art Show will take place during Green Meadow's Open House
April 11, 2018 from 6:30-8:00 pm in the Cafeteria.  This year's show will include students in grades Kindergarten through 3rd.  Each piece will be framed and displayed by Grade, Teacher and then alphabetically by student.  The show serves a dual purpose of displaying the beautiful work completed by students AND raising funds for the art department.

On the night of the show, families will have the option of purchasing the artwork frame for $25.
For each frame sold, the art department will receive $6.00 towards supplies and special projects.  If you'd like and additional copy of artwork for friends or family, Artome offers artwork reproduction!  They will also offer additional blank frames to display other pieces your child has completed that are not part of the show.

I'm very excited to see all the artwork framed and displayed! Please email me with any questions regarding the show.  See you on April 11th!

A reminder flyer will be going home soon!
