2016-2017 School Year Welcome!

Welcome back!

Curriculum:

We will continue to study famous artists such as Claude Monet, Andy Warhol, Jackson Pollack, Salvador Dali, Jeff Koons, Georgia O’keefe, Andy Goldsworthy, Piet Mondrian and more!  Students will use a variety of materials and methods to study each artist.

Art show:

2nd Grade students will participate in the annual art show in May so the majority of their artwork will stay at school until the end of the year.  Artwork will be uploaded to Artsonia throughout the year for viewing.

Artsonia:

Students will have the opportunity to participate in our online art museum, Artsonia.com.  The online museum allows you to view student work, make comments and share your child’s artwork with family and friends.  Their account follows them through their school years so that they will have a full online art portfolio.  You can also upload artwork at home.  The museum also allows you to order t-shirts, mugs, cards and other products with your child’s artwork on it.  A percentage of the proceeds from these sales go the art program to purchase additional supplies. Students who do not yet have an account should complete the Artsonia slip and return it to me. You will receive an email from Artsonia to activate your child’s account.  Until the account is activated, artwork will remain hidden.

*HELP UPLOAD ARTWORK:  Last year, Anne Gibson volunteered to upload artwork to Artsonia.  As a result of her time and effort the majority of student work was uploaded to Artsonia last year!  (Also-thank you to Amanda Hemm for her time.) It is a big job getting all the work uploaded so we can always use help. If you are interested in uploading artwork to Artsonia-please sign up on the volunteers chart.

**Volunteers**:

For the past two years I have had an AMAZING parent volunteer helping in the art room (Lydia Clancy).  She helped me with hanging artwork, organizing supplies & donations, cleaning, hanging the art show-you name it!  She has found a full time job and I will miss her TREMENDOUSLY!  SO….if you are interested in volunteering please email me to discuss options.  You can reach me at sarcelay@maynard.k12.ma.us
